How to Host the Perfect Christmas High Tea

December 20, 2017

With Christmas only a few sleeps away and the festive season in full swing, now is the perfect opportunity to hold a holiday themed High Tea! So many events pop up on my calendar at this time of year, however I always like to hold a Christmas High Tea with my girlfriends, not only to celebrate this joyously fun time, but to also reflect on another incredibly busy and successful year. Below is my step by step guide to throwing a divine Christmas High Tea that you and your girlfriends will absolutely love!

Step 1- The Set Up

I always take advantage of the warmer temperature and set up a beautiful table outside in my garden. I then pick my favourite tea sets and accessories. This year it will be a mix of my Ruby and Ivory Teacups from our Signature Collection, as well as Ivory Cake Stands, all complimented by stunning white and red roses. The table settings must also match the colour palette, so a crisp white tablecloth, sprinkled gold stars, delicate ivory and gold place cards and stunning gold cutlery will complete the look beautifully.

Step 2 – The Tea

I always offer a variety of different flavoured tea to cater for all of my girlfriends, but my go to must haves are English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Peppermint and Green Tea. A nice mix of heavier black teas to lighter more refreshing teas are perfect for all taste palettes and will each accompany the food you serve perfectly.

Step 3 – The Sweets and Treats

It is important to have a mix of both sweet and savoury treats at your Afternoon Tea. Some savoury food I like to serve include Finger Sandwiches in flavours such as cucumber, turkey with chutney and ham with a sweet honey mustard. I also enjoy serving festive inspired sweets such as scones, red velvet cake, rum balls, gingerbread and red, white and gold macaroons. It’s a perfect mix of flavours whilst also playing with the festive holiday theme.

Step 4 – The Finishing Touches

Finally, go over the finishing touches. Make sure you have the perfect playlist of music to have on in the background, that stunningly scented candles are burning, ensure that you have plenty of sugar, milk, cream and jam in the fridge, and that copious amounts of tea are at the ready!

This is one of my favourite times of the year as it is full of happiness, celebration, reflection and fun. I hope that you enjoy all of the festivities and gatherings with your friends and family, and that you have a Merry Christmas!
