MSFW: Cheat guide

August 17, 2016

I love spring. It means fashion and florals. We’ve always been proud of our association with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, having used paper couture to style
VIP rooms and runways throughout the festival. This year though, I’m taking a break to simply enjoy MSFW as a guest.

I know there is far too much to see, but the fashion is incredible and inspiring – and you should definitely get along to some choice favourites if you can!
If you’d like my opinion on what’s well worth seeing, here’s a mini cheat guide.

(And remember to socialise and hashtag – it’s all part of the fun! #MSFW #MSFW16 #melbournefashion)

Opening Gala, 7-8pm, Tuesday 30 Aug, Melbourne Town Hall. $35-65. Tickets here

We love Thurley and this is the only event they’ll be showing at, so get your hands on some tickets if you can!
Other designers showing: Aurelio Costarella / Bianca Spender / Carla Zampatti / CHRISTAHLEA / Gwendolynne / JASONGRECH / OneDay / Rachel Gilbert.

Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out, Melbourne CBD, Friday 26 Aug, 5-10pm, FREE (+shopping allowance!)

Hashtag ready? #VAEFNO is opening at 5pm in Bourke Street Mall; there’s the Emporium Runway between Swanston & Elizabeth at 6pm; lots to see (and retailer offers)
in Emporium, and activations over in City Square area. Phew! (#emporiummelbourne)

Makers & Shakers Emerging Design Market, Melbourne Town Hall, Friday 26 Aug – Friday 2 Sep. FREE (+shopping allowance!) See times here.

We just love a good market where we can get our hands on original jewellery, fashion and accessories from Melbourne designers. Entry is free, but I can’t promise you won’t spend up big on some gorgeous finds. (Remember your hashtags: #themakersandshakers #emergingdesigners #melbournemarket #melbournefashion #melbournemade)

Crazy About Tiffany’s (movie), ACMI, Thursday 25 Aug – Wednesday 31 Aug, $10-17 tickets. Show times.

If you’re one for the classics – or a bit of bling – this one’s for you. This fully-authorised documentary is a real first, showcasing the characters behind the classic brand and telling the tale of how Tiffany’s won over the hearts of the world. If you’re all shopped out, sit back and enjoy a night at ACMI. (#tiffanyco)

And for the floral lovers (like me) there are two special events to see:

Floricouture by Melbourne Flower Merchant, 555 Bourke Street, Monday 29 Aug – Friday 2 Sep, FREE

An exhibition for fashion and floral enthusiasts, made with thousands of fresh fleurs! Featuring gowns created from flowers that are inspired by local fashion.
I’ll definitely be dropping in to see the floral artists at work early in the week.

Fresh Floral Adornments Workshop, Flower Temple, Artemis Lane, Monday 29 Aug – Friday 2 Sep, $65. Tickets here.

Create your own stunning and verdant flower crown with flower genius and Creative Director of Flower Temple, Elizabeth Ricci. First you learn about the latest floral trends, and then you get to make your crown. Plus, you’re greeted with bubbles sweet treats upon entry into the enchanted garden. Divine! (and the hashtags for your creations would be endless…)

There are so many other events if you enjoy millinery and want to make your headpiece for the races, are keen to learn about entrepreneurial pursuits, or are looking for hairstyle inspo, so do explore the MSFW website if you have the time.

For now, I hope this cheat sheet has given you some highlights so you can be sure to marvel, shop and create!
